Hi all,

Thinking of taking my G9 w/ Canon housing ice diving early next month. Anyone do this with or without problems? Any issues with ice crystals/o-ring hardening...?

Thanks!

Not diving a G9 - my camera's an A570IS. But the housings should be similar constructions. I've been diving over recent weeks in near freezing water, including some that had floating ice. The camera and housing performed flawlessly.

One piece of advice - switching it on early and allowing a little heat to build in the case seems to reduce the toll on batteries and a tendency in the cold for the 'low battery' warnings to appear with freshly charged NiMh cells....

Enjoy your ice diving!

You will have more issues with the cold than anything else. Battery's wont last as long, LCD's are dim and slow.

In water is not really a problem, just make sure to use desiccant pack to absorb moisture. It is easy to get condensate on the lens.

Out of water is another issue, depending on air temp. If its really cold you may want to have a cooler of water handy to keep the camera submerged to prevent it from freezing. Do not let water freeze in the controls.
