I make DVD slide shows form my photos (snorkeling before and now diving)... For the background music I love: Yellow Submarine & Octopus's Garden (Beatles)
I've also used a few songs form Disney's nemo and other movies.
As far as listening when on the islands, anything jazzy & Cuban.

Ishbaby says.. UNDERWATER LOVE, Smoke City

Dynamite song. Must play it for next dive.

I replay a song in my head when I'm diving always. It really helps with breathing for me, for calming and slowing and focusing the exhalation. It also seems to activate a relaxing part of the brain (depending on what you're listening to but Underwater Love would be a good example) that allows you to enjoy the dive, focus on the little bits, leave any apprehension behind and feel, well, more fish like. More at one with your environment.

This at least is my experience, although I listen to music constantly so maybe it's not such a big surprise. I still maintain tho, using music for diving - much like yoga or meditation, can be a real asset. My key tip is to play the song you want, on your iPod or whatever, and stop it mid way. Then go diving. Your brain will still have this in it's head (much more so than if you finished the song) and so the rhythm will flow through you as you replay the song in your head.

OP - thanks for the post. I think this piece might be more useful for some people than is acknowledged. I think it could be a useful exercise in getting beginners to manage buoyancy, for example.

Over and out. J

To be vaguely technical I would suggest music that is Andante, or slower, for the purposes (breathing while [and before] diving) I suggest.

Hi Gang!

I'm fairly new to SB and I just found this thread. I know it's a little old, but it's right up my alley, so I was thinking I might ask small favor of you all. Since you are all quite obviously connoisseurs of fine Scuba Music, I was wondering if you wouldn't mind listening to a few of my tunes and let me know what you think. I've made it my personal goal to popularize Scuba Music to the point where we have our own genre... and to that end, I have just released my first Scuba Music album titled, "Just A Scuba Cowboy". You can listen to every sonog in it's entirety on my site-wide player and I would be very interested in your opinions on my music. Most of my songs are pulled straight out of adventures I've had on dive trips, so hopefully a lot of you can relate well. Anyway, my website is www.JustAScubaCowboy.com so if you have a minute, please give it a listen and let me know what you think.

Thanks in advance, I sincerely appreciate honest input from other divers... after all, this music is dedicated to ALL of my dive buddies around the world!

Hi Pup! Welcome to SB.

I enjoyed hang'n out in the music room, nice website.
A bit too country for this SoCal native, but well done.

Hi SoCalSwami,

Thanks for the warm welcome and especially thanks for the kind words! I'm always looking for lots of input from fellow divers on musical styles, especially since I've already started recording my second album. That's one of the great things about Scuba Music is you can kind of mix the styles a bit even on the same album.

Hey Tommy!

Thanks a million bro', I truly appreciate the kind words and the support! The second album is already in the works, so if you have any thoughts on content, feel free to drop me a line! I always give song credits to anyone that shares an idea about a hook or song topic with me, right on the album. After all, it's Scuba Music... who better to harvest ideas from than all my awesome dive buddies! Thanks again!

Pup

Sitting here with a glass of Cabernet and listning to your sweet scuba songs and just wanted to thank you once again for entertainment extraordinaire.

Can't wait till your next installment.

When im hunting Jaguar Shark I listen to the theme song from Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou

"Supposedly Cousteau and his cronies invented the idea of putting walkie-talkies into the helmet. But we made ours with a special rabbit ear on the top so we could pipe in some music."

Seriously though Bob Marley has got to be the best...
