Bennett Springs 4/9/2009-4/12/2009

Heading up to Bennett Springs from Texas and camping 4/9/2009-4/12/2009. I would like to dive the spring. I understand many fisherman frequent this location in the summer and diving is not advised during this time. How is the fishing pressure in April and will I be able to go for a dip?

I have heard that you need a permit to dive Bennett but am unable to find information about this on the state park web page. Are dive reservations allowed in April? Is a night dive advisable to avoid line entanglement from the April fisherman?

If any locals wish to join me for a couple dives, by all means, consider yourself welcome.

I do not believe they allow diving in april, usually they only issue permits nov-feb. Wish they would change this policy. Call the bennett springs nature center and ask about the possibility for a permit - (417) 532-3925.

Thanks! I contacted the number above and the park ranger confirmed diving is only allowed during November-February because of the fisherman utilizing the spring. Since fishing is allowed only at certain times during the day, I asked if night dives were allowed. The response was that there is no night diving allowed in Bennett Springs.

Bummer.
