my dad just got a 63" woodie from JBL and had the slip tip and loses more fish then he got in the boat but was able to shot a 5 foot amberjack thow he did not get it in the boat it took him from 55 feet down to 140 in less than a min and then he shot to the top and lost his gun but it went stright throw
 
For your location/conditions, I would recommend a 52-60" gun, set up for freeshafting with optional lineshaft.

I'd go with a Spearfishing Specialties commercial or a new Ocean Rhino or a Deathstick.

I'm looking at an Ocean Rhino 52" right now. I think I'm going to buy that one and check it out.
