Me (Rescue Diver soon to start DM program) and my friend (About to start her open water) wanna take a trip to a Nice South Pacific Resort. God knows we both need it. Personally I'd like to dive Palau. She loves the idea of Starwood in Bora Bora.

The Question is......what would you guy suggest? Anything Starwood like in Palau? is Fiji nice or is the Bora Bora resort the way to go? Hell does Bora Bora even have good diving? lol

Thanks guys
Chris

PPR in Palau is much nicer than Starwood. ( Palau is in the Western Pacific) Diving in Bora Bora is ok. Too many Americans for my tastes. Fiji can be a bit pricy ie: 8 to 10 bucks for a afterdive beer.

If you are on your way to be a DM Palau would be my choice.

Dale Still on a little rock in the Pacific next to a pineapple under the sea!

View from our room at the PPR. PPR is huge, but pretty. I liked where we were--far out of the way (despite the long walk to the room). Caters to Japanese.

Tries to be real fancy, staff is friendly, but still has those island touches that keep it from being a four seasons level hotel (e.g. I had to find the luggage porter the day we arrived--they mismarked our bags, so he decided to take a nap in the stairwell with our bags sitting next to him rather than find us. Or the fact that the busses from the airport were a dive op's busses with filthy tarps on all the seats) But once there it is beautiful.

I haven't been to the other site you mention, so I can't say which is better.

FWIW--Palau is far--stay overnight in Tokyo or Honolulu going and coming -- Continental flight takes something near 30 hours and can be a bit brutal.

If you like Starwood and like luxury, you've Le Meridien in Papeete, Tahiti, Le Meridien Bora Bora (we'll be at both of these in three weeks and have stayed at Bora Bora Le Meridien before), or you could go total luxury and stay at St Regis Bora Bora (where Couples Retreat was filmed), but be warned, the room in Couples Retreat with the overwater pool is about $4,500 per night! This will be my 5th visit to French Polynesia (also been to Fiji 4 times) and they are chalk and cheese, with FP alot more private. I think personally that the diving is better in FP, as Fiji has no fishing restrictions.

Here are some links to our photos from our last trip to Tahiti, Moorea and Bora Bora 2 years ago.
