I am very new to diving and have alot to learn. Is there anyone that can tell me about diving in Costa Rica. I have a fishing trip planed for Hermosa which is on the West coast of Costa Rica. I know there are some very strong currents there. I am sure this is no place for a new diver but I would really like to dive there. What are your thoughts on this????????????????????????????????????? O Yea I am going in March

Spent a week diving in Costa Rica a few years ago. We stayed at the Ocotal Resort on the Pacific side.

Diving was more challenging as we were dealing with low vis of about 10-20 feet. This could have just been the time of the year. Strong surge was common on just about every dive.

Saw lots of puffer fish, eels and a number of sharks. Very little coral as this is all volcanic rock. But was fun diving.

Also don't pass up the opportunity to go on an eco-tour, doing the zip lines, mud baths and horseback riding.

I was in Hermosa a few years ago. The diving is great and fairly easy. Do surpresa and the aquarium. Also go for the expedition to visit the bull sharks. It is worth the trip to see 30 - 40 bull sharks circling you. There, as said, are a lot of puffers and morays. We saw a lot of rays as well. Only one problem I had is that some trips were cancelled because there were no DM's. It is laid back there and, if they don't have enough staff, you stay home. This is a problem if you have no car and are staying in Hermosa. Luckily, there were some zip line parks nearby and I met friends with a car. There are two dive operators in Hermosa and both seemed good to deal with. PM me if you want more info.

Wife and I did the Pacific side a couple years ago. Viz was maybe 30 feet but there was a huge amount of wildlife.
