The 5' OMS SMB will do just fine. SMB, whistle, and mirror.....don't dive without it in our part of the world!
 
won't do anyone any good to whip out your sausage and wave it around when you're 2 feet from the boat... it's bad form :eyebrow:

I prefer the closed type, that will not fall over and sink in the surface.

Also, a very good advice: NEVER EVER connect a deployed DSMB to your BCD or body if you are not in the surface!
