I guess the first offical idea, given to me just before I left the dive shop. Do a documentary on say 4 different divers over the course of a year. the Divers are say a young married couple, an ex military guy, a ex comercial diver or wants to be a comercial diver a single lady interested in tech stuff..You show the training the gear choices money matters a selection of places to go diving lakes liveabords carribean etc.

JAW - Le Grand Bleu (The Big Blue) is one of my absolute all time favourite films... it's by Luc Besson who did The Fifth Element, The Professional (Leon), La Femme Nikita and Kiss of the Dragon... If you haven't seen it you must! Try to get the director's cut... I must have watched it 100 times at least.

As for other scuba movies - "Shark Attack"? An absolutely cr@p film about great whites in South Africa...

my system kept crashing when i tried posting on this thread...let's hope this gets through...

Walter - thanks for the link - any idea where i can get some of these movies, since most of the video stores here only stock the latest and most commercialised/"popular" movies?

Thanks!

Finding them is another story. While looking you might want to check out diving on TV http://www.diverlink.com/media/tv.htm

They show up from time to time at various department stores in the US.

Jaws -- nuiff said with its scariness and example of an embolism

The Deep -- 10 minutes of Jackie Bissett in a white t-shirt underwater; and was shot on the Rhone, a current popular dive site

Blue Water; White Death -- early 70's late 60's documentary on whitey

also, The Abyss, Sphere, Thunderball, Coccoon, Splash

recently IMAX had a cave movie that had a cave diving segment in Yucatan that was cool

I saw "The Big Blue" in the theaters many years ago, or at least it seems that it has been a very long time. I really enjoyed it a lot, although I can't tell you much about it anymore since it has been so long. I would definitely recommend it from what I remember of it though!

I have a movie poster for "Underwater", an old movie with Jane Russell, double hose regs, no bc's, produced by Howard Hughes. I've never seen the movie, just have the poster.

"Underwater fury in that new, exciting underwater world!"

UPDATE - Here's a review I found on the Web:

Title: Underwater!
Rating: [two stars]
Director: John Sturges
Year: 1955
Length: 99 minutes

Plot Summary

Both Jane Russell and her uncredited stunt double look great in skimpy swimwear throughout the Technicolor and SuperScope romantic adventure Underwater. Ms. Russell is cast as the wife of fortune-chasing Richard Egan, who takes her along to the Caribbean on a treasure hunt. The couple is accompanied by mercenary Gilbert Roland, priest Robert Keith, and Egan's blonde-doxy secretary Lori Nelson. While exploring the depths in search of untold riches, the little party is menaced by a band of modern-day pirates, led by Joseph Calleila. Partially filmed on location in Mexico, Underwater was completed in a newly-constructed underwater tank in an RKO Radio soundstage. For its world premiere, Underwater was projected on a submerged movie screen at Silver Springs Florida, and the invited guests were encouraged to don aqualungs and bathing uits so that they could watch the picture while swimming! A similar publicity ploy was utilized nine years later at Marineland of the Pacific for the premiere of The Incredible Mr. Limpet (1955). ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Don't Forget National Lampoon's "Last Resort" . Highly recommended if your are drunk or asleep.

The IMAX movie, was Amazing Caves. It was an amazing movie. IMAX also did "Dolphins" which had wonderful underwater shots.
