I'm well aware that the diving off Koh Samui is meant to be OK but no great shakes, but can anyone give me some recomendations for Dive Operators and Dive Sites. We're thinking of heading out there late May/early June.

thanks in advance

I went with Samui International Diving School last year. They've got a shop right along the main street so it's easy enough to find. What I liked about them was that the staff were friendly and professional. They also have a speed boat called Naughty Girl II which can get you too and from the sites fast so you avoid the big crowded boats and get to do your diving before the mobs arrive. The speed boat costs a little more but it's worth it for the added comfort. It even has a proper toilet on board :)

Good sites in the area are Koh Tao, the Chumporn pinnacle (saw 8 bull sharks there last Aug), Sail Rock and the Marine Park

Thanks very much for the recommendation.

Depends what you like - I'd recommend Chumphon Pinnacle as a nice dive,
but I prefer walls and sealife there

I did my Open Water with Big Blue which is in Chaweng. They were by the book and thorough. We went to Sail Rock, which is a pinnacle and we had 30 meters of visibility.

Hi guys! I have some opinion about Koh Samui diving. Instead of going to Koh Samui for diving i'd recommend going to another island called Koh Tao. Since most of the dive sites are around Koh Tao, like Chumphon Pinnacle, Sail Rock, Nang Yuan Pinnacle are all easy access from Koh Tao (i mean shorter boat ride). Koh Tao is not as big as Koh Samui, which is 3 times bigger than Koh Tao.But they have the best diving facilities as most people go there to DIVE!
Ban's Diving Village, Scuba Junction, Big Blue, Seashell just to name a few. There's a lot more!!

Like in Koh Samui, it's big, it's more expensive (compare to Tao) and you can see almost every white men on the island have local 'chicks'..unless your objective apart from diving is to get laid..then it's different story.

Fair point but main focus is holiday with some diving thrown in to break up the days. So Koh Samui it will be.
