Two Interior girls wanting to dive Porteau Cove sometime next week. Where can we rent tanks? Dreading having to drive all across town with the big camper on, so whichever shop was closest, or easiest to reach, from Porteau Cove. Or should we be bringing our tanks from Kamloops?

Any word on the latest viz? Is is even worth the trip right now?

If anyone knows any other interesting group dives or local trips going on in the Lower Mainland next week, let us know! All we want is to get wet again and see some fishies and check out BC coastal diving for the first time. Got a bit experience, 60 & 100 dives, but all warm water or lakes.

The closest is Edge Diving, in North Vancouver. (The only dive shop on the north shore)
Edge Diving Centre

Safe diving!

There used to be one in squamish, but your best bet is probably edge diving, or IDC downtown. I'd call ahead and make sure they'll have tanks though.

Viz Last weekend (Sunday) was excellent.

If you have not dove at Porteau before the Viz can and usually does drastically change with the tide. High tide is best for Viz.

Whytecliff Park is also another popular spot, about 20 mins south of Porteau, but Porteau is more interesting. Whytecliff is more of a wall dive, porteau has more reef / wrecks to explore.

Porteau can at certain times during the tidal shift get a strong surface current that mostly dissipates under 30ft, so some planning for swim out / swim in is needed.

The Edge is where I do business and they have an "Edge Dive" every Sunday. Meet at the shop at 9:00am. There is usually a DM and a regular group of divers ranging from OW to Rescue Divers. They also offer FREE air.

Whytecliff and Porteau are the usual destinations.

You camping at Porteau? There is also a very nice dive at Furry Creek a few minutes north of Porteau.

Alice lake slightly north of squamish might have spots too. If you are driving in HWY1 westbound, it might be less hassle to get tanks from somewhere with easier access than going downtown to IDC. Oceanquest in burnaby is off hwy1 between willingdon & boundary, or even Langley Diving off 200th street with a huge parking lot....
