Hi, you can get up to $3000 pesos a day from an ATM in Mexico and more places are accepting credit cards but you may get charged a fee. You can get pesos before you go from the American Express office if you live in Phoenix....or in the airport. I have found that AM Ex has better rates.

Not really a big deal, you just can't use US dollars as feely as in the past...you have to change them over to pesos.

Karen

The bottom line is you have to use pesos.

I am in Mexico two weekends a month I have not had any effect from this at all. The restruants we go to all take the American dollar. All the stores we go to still take the American dollar. If I am making a large purchase I will use the debit/credit card to make the purchase this way you are given the best exchange rate for the day plus a 1% fee for changing. Most of the exchange banks will charge 3% and will give you the lowest exchange from the previous day. In my opnion we feel safer in Mexico than some parts of Phoenix and Tucson.

We went to Cabo in July - and used pesos for about 98% of everything,

Thankfully our bank allows for no fees or charges for withdrawl at ANY atm worldwide, so we just got pesos there. For the most part - we did find out that the American dollar was more accepted at the shops that pesos (almost all prices posted were in US $ - had to commonly ask for the peso price.)

The Mexican Government passed a new law, which comes into effect in Mexico starting September 14, 2010.
