I was at Casino Point on Saturday on Catalina when I had an interesting and infuriating incident happen to me and my buddy from an instructor. My buddy was having some buoyancy issues at 500-700 PSI at 15 feet towards the end of our dive. There are a few buoys and lines around 15 feet over at Casino point that belong to some of the local dive operators/shops. I swam my buddy over to one to grab the base so that she could either make a slower ascent up the line or so I can sort out her weighting by transferring some of my weight to her etc. At this point an unknown instructor came up to my friend and SHOVED her off the line and pointed up to indicate that his students were descending. I swam over to try to grab her but she promptly ascended uncontrolled to the surface. This jack ass of an instructor then came and shoved me off the line. PHYSICALLY pushed BOTH of us off the line. I can understand him tapping us and indicating he has students coming down and asking us to move but it is absolutely unacceptable to physically remove someone off the line, even if it belongs to someone else! He had no idea why my buddy was on that line and I find this to be a serious safety issue. Although unlikely at that location but what if someone had a deco obligation for some reason!

I tried to wait around after the dive and walked around later looking for this instructor as well as asking 6 other instructors I knew there to keep an eye out based on a description but I guess I missed him and he left. I suppose it's a good thing because I was pissed off enough to shove him the same way on land and pick a fight with him in front of his students if I found him.

Anyways, that's my rant and complaint.

Qualifies as battery last time I checked. You could call the cops.

I have seen it the last few years. The shop owns the line, and Instructor does not care.
With the amount of divers that come there, there should have been some respect.

Once the line is placed out there I wonder what ownership rights are actually retained, especially when a "non-owner" is attempting to use it in a potentially life-threatening emergency.

I don't want to talk to his parents, I want to question his parentage!:D
