Lake Murray
Nov 2, 2011

Air Temp: 55-63 throughout the day
Surface Temp: 64
Temp @ 62': 64

We never hit a thermocline.

Vis: About 2-3' max, opening up to maybe 4-5 around 50'
Lost ambient light around 35'

Location: I apologize for my ignorance of the lake here. We left the marina by boat and tied onto a metal tower in the lake. I would have to ask my instructor if it has a name.

CSSP
Nov 4, 2011

Air Temp: 55-72 throughout the day
Surface Temp: 68
Temp @ 32': 66

We did not venture below 32' to find the thermocline.

Vis: Started with 4-6' and opened up to at least 8' at the Adventure Scuba Platform and surrounding platforms. The vis was the same at 2 of the boat wrecks(don't know their names at this time) and at the platform where you can swim through one of the remaining triangles/diamonds.

We were the only ones at CSSP all day. Hopefully the divers tomorrow morning find the vis to be this decent. :)

Lake Georgetown and Granger Lake report - strictly for historical purposes
note that these are low water conditions at Lk Georgetown. Lk Granger is only 4 feet below normal.

10/1/11 Lake Georgetown
Dove off the swim beach at Russell Park
Water temp 79F
Mid channel was 8ffw.
Might be deeper at the wall on the other side. But this was also an old time fording place, so maybe not.
Noticable current.
Viz was 6-12 inches at 8ffw

11/5/11 Lake Granger
Compared to Lake Granger -- Lake Georgetown was the Caribbean.
We put in at Taylor Pk, boat ramps are still in the water but area is very shallow, less than 3 feet in spots. Motored down toward dam and banks get steeper.
Lk Travis was 70F isothermic on this date as far down as ARLUT measures it.
Air Temp was 40ish in the morning and up to mid 70s by late afternoon
Water Temp was 60F.
Viz was zero zip nada.
Even at the surface you couldn't read your gauge when it was a few inches away.
About 5ffw the water color went reddish brown.
Around 10ffw it went pitch black.

Sunday, November 20, 2011
Water temp: 63 degrees
Air temp: 80 degrees

Did 2 fun dives at CSSP, each 1 hour and 20 minutes. The warm air temps made a good surface interval. Viz 6-8 feet, some areas were silted out. Saw the boat sunk earlier this year, and the coffin (top of coffin at 36 feet). The coffin used to be on top of big boulders; now it's in the same general area, but rests on mud making it a little harder to find. Also saw a school of about 40 good sized bass and 2 catfish swimming with them. Saw 1 perch by itself.

FYI, CSSP will be closed next weekend, Nov. 26 & 27.

Lake Travis, Mansfield Park Dive Area
Air temp: 60s
Water Temp: 65 degrees
Visibility: 6-7 feet down to 77 feet; zero from 77-86 feet
Max Depth: 86 feet
The shallow sailboat is out of the water. The bow of the barge is just out as well. The deeper sailboat is in 5 feet; the bass boats that are located toward the boat ramp are at 5 feet and 8 feet. The wall is at 14 feet. Lots of bass and a few catfish as well.
