Hi All,

I am relatively new to Scuba diving. I received my certification last July through SSI. I first dove while in Kauai, did two beach dives, then while on Oahu for a wedding we decided to go boat diving where I did another two dives...this got me excited about diving and when I saw Groupon had a deal for certification for 199 I jumped at it. I finished up my certification with 3 dives at casino point, Catalina Island. So now I am certified but have not been able to get out as much as I'd like. My wife is certified but it's like pulling teeth to get her to go.

I do not own a BCD or regs and I am looking to purchase a used one if anyone knows any deals.

I currently live in Southern California, Huntington Beach, so if there is anyone out there who is looking for a dive partner for some beach dives, hit me up! I can always rent equipment to go!

Thanks all! Have a great day!

Welcome to SB! I'm sure you'll find this to be an amazing site with tons of great info. You can check out the classifieds on here to look for deals and post interests in buying items. Depending on what you are looking for I am selling a Scubapro MK25/S600 reg at a very reasonable cost. It's been my backup reg primarily and is a bulletproof reg. You can look at ratings on this reg and see that it is very highly rated as are most Scuba Pro products.

Hope you make it back to the islands at some point. Give me a shout if you come to Kauai in particular. I'll make sure you are well taken care of.

Have a fantastic day!

Thank ya! Kauai was incredible! Loved the island...guess it also helps to have friends who live there too! They showed us some amazing things! Tunnels was a great place to dive! Can't wait to go back!!!

I'm a newbie too. I did a lot of looking for used equipment and here's what I've found so far. Regulators on ebay seem to be pretty old and still get 30-50% of new cost usually with no guarantee. Then you add $30-$40 to get it serviced and it doesn't make a lot of sense. Check out the discount houses and you'll find great prices on new entry level equipment with a major brand. For example Leisurepro currently has last year's Mares MR12/rover for $114. I watched sales on this for around $200 for a month or so then all of a sudden they have this sale 'till March 19th. I've found local dive shops and ebay have some pretty good deals on BC and I guess I don't mind a used BC as much as a used regulator.

I'm not very experienced so maybe others with more experience have other ideas that are better but since I've recently been on the hunt for gear I thought I'd add my $.02.

Hope this helps.

Do you have a link for this? Love to check it out!

Just to follow up. I've dived a couple of times now with this Mares regulator and it worked great. Only two dives in Caribbean so so cold data. Very comfortable, no free flow issues. Worked as well or better than the rental equipment I've used so I'm very happy with it. Dives were 60-85' and breathing was effortless down to 500# on the tank. Mouthpiece was very comfortable too.
