hello everyone,

i'm planning to leave in november for unlimited time. i saved up enough money to go till instructor (i think :) ). also willing to help or work in some bar or anything.
i really want to do some good diving, not shure if it's the right period to go do that. one of my other conserns is that i really like surfing and looking for a place to combine those!
any1 here can advise me a diveschool they have been and really liked?
(i looked a lot on this forum and if you are thinking that it's the 10000 time this topic, please link me then to the topic)

you would help me A LOT!

big thx in advance

I couldn't decide either.

As far as "the right period" of the year to go... it depends upon where in the world you were headed. Which way are you thinking about?

Hi there

For diving and surfing , Bali is awesome. We have dived in Tulamben , the Gilis and Nusa Lembongan on more than one occasion and love these areas so much. It is the rainy season , but I wouldn't let that stop you. We have dived with Manta on Gili Air and World Diving on Lembongan and both shops were fantastic. The diving is also fantastic , we adore turtles , sharks and mantas and have seen many many in Indonesia.

Have a wonderful time whatever you decide.

I've only managed to work in 2 areas where I could dive and surf; consequently I'm still a bad surfer :D

There's great surfing on the South West Coast of Australia, the dive shops are small but that can be a good thing;
I used to work here: Welcome to Cape Dive they are only a 5 star so you can't do your instructor here, but IDC's are held in Perth.

The only other place I found is Tofo Beach Mozambique. The diving here is challenging but every day off I had seemed to coincide with no-surf :( but the opportunity was there. IDC's are possible in the area.

I'm sure there a lot more places on the planet, but those are the only two from my personal experience.

Durban in South Africa is a good place to surf and dive (Aliwal Shoal)
Nusa Lembongan, Bali has both fantastic surf and diving. World Diving would be a good place to train.

Almost anywhere in Southern Australia would also work

Costa Rica? Seems to be fairly reasonable to live there.

Costa Rica Scuba Diving - A guide to Scuba Diving in Costa Rica - Go Visit Costa Rica
Costa Rica Surfing - Surf the best waves of your life in Costa Rica - Go Visit Costa Rica

IDK anything about them but I did see this also: http://www.goprocostarica.com/

Utila is good for dive training, there's a lot of very affordable options in town for living also but I doubt there's any surfing there.

Hawaii also, the big waves start rolling in in November off Maui, Kauai or Oahu. I think most of the PADI dive training centers are on Oahu which might be the cheapest to live. Maybe Maui Dreams Dive Co. on Maui also. It will still be pretty expensive though for rentals as that's their high tourist season. You could also shoredive there and inter-island flights are pretty reasonable if planned a little in advance. I don't think there's regular dive training on Kauai - it's not busy enough to support it.
