I must say the one thing I appreciate about gopro is their support for older models even with newer ones available. I doubt that you will ever have to upgrade just to avoid running out of spares or support. My only reason for upgrading would be my technophilia bugging me... I can already record HD with my original Hero and my tv can only display HD, so that 4K video will be nothing more than half the record time in my case...
