Jan. 1st Gilboa Quarry in OH.
A crisp 24º air temp made the 43º water feel balmy!
Our 3 / 2 man team did a single 35 min. dive on the shallow side.
It was beautiful conditions, sunny very little wind and no crowds to fight!
One of divers Ray dove wet and was the senior member of the group.

One of my favorite dives of the entire year up north.
Only the diehards come out for this one!
HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL!

Jan 1st, 9am Veteran's Park, Redondo Beach California
54F @40ft, 30 minute dive, 5' viz.

Fun mellow morning beach dive, great way to kick off the new year. It also happened to be my first dive since 2005!

So far, in my dreams. Despite decent conditions here on Catalina Island I've held off so I can clean house and catch up on my video editing. However, I am keeping up with my numbers to-date from last year and I did 326 dives then. I do plan to dive this weekend. Conditions at the Casino Point Dive Park are pretty good for early January... 60 ft vis and min temps of 57-59 F reported at depths above 80 fsw.

One dive yesterday (Wed 2nd Jan) at Car Cemetery, Khorfakkan, UAE, had to abandon the second dive as I could not clear my right ear.

Two dives today, the first was awesome at Inchcape 2 (wreck) and photographed seven different nudibranchs including a new one for me Phyllodesmium serratum

Mine won't be until march when I get in the pool to double check gear before an April lob trip to Belize.

Unless I find some folks for winter diving, it will be mid Feb in Roatan.

Jan 1, Cedar Hill, Georgian Bay, Ontario. Water 40F degrees and pretty good viz. Air temp minus 7 C. Frozen drysuit at the end of the dive. PIC_0225.jpgPIC_0229.jpg

Saw a lake trout that swam right up to me, no gobies (yay) and many sleeping zebra mussels.

lake is down about a foot since November. Not a lot of snow on the shoreline, either.

haven't had my first of 2013 yet but last of 2012 was at grand cayman, those reefs are beautiful and youre usually the only diver since most tourists are lured towards the stingray sandbar.

I did two dives on New Year's day with my friend Mark. We went to Les Davis park in Tacoma. It was a lovely, sunny day with air temperatures in the low to mid 30's and water at right around 46 degrees. Visibility was a nice 15-25 feet, depending on time and depth ... with the tide ebbing, vis was a bit better on the first dive than the second. I took my camera on the first dive, but the most photo worthy thing we saw on the first dive was a sea lion who hung around with us for a short time. Unfortunately, she was too big for my macro lens ... so no pictures. Second dive I left the camera in the car, and we found a couple wolf eels and some interesting nudibranchs.

Afterward we stopped by a local pub and celebrated our first dives of 2013 with burgers and a pint of Mac & Jack's ...
