No I haven't. I've never seen them that big before. I know someone who may be able to identify it. I'll do some research. It was kind of cool seeing it's propulsion system at work. They feed at the same time.

Just moving up the link to the current page so people know what I'm talking about when I say I've never seen them that big before.

O.K. are you ready for this? The name of that Salp is Thety's Vagina. No joke. Here is a link and no it's not a porn site, unless your a Salp, then who knows.

Hey Dan... was this a shore dive or boat dive? What site?

We did two dives at S. Monastery on Saturday (6/29). Walk out exit was possible on both dives with only a little trouble. Viz on the first dive was a green 20-25ft around the metridiums at about 50 ft. Inexplicably, the viz improved to 30-35 ft for the second dive at the same location. We didn't complain

Dove Breakwater Monday. Shallow, the vis was awful, though opened up to around 15-20 around the bend at 40ft. Temp was 49 at depth. Slight surge, flat calm surface. Lots of Nudies out and about. Fun mellow dive. Warm day with a little breeze. Perfect weather.

Dove Breakwater wall and pipes today. Vis was about 10-15ft. Beautiful surface conditions. Water looked green and brown in spots. Got to 40ft deep and vis was more toward the 15ft of things. Saw a bunch of Cancer crabs eating a seagul on the bottom. Also saw a patio umbrella fully opened on the bottom.

Went out to Breakwater with a class on Monday and Tuesday. Water was very flat and calm, but tide was really low and visibility was nearly zero on Monday afternoon. Tuesday morning things opened up a little, maybe to around 10', and the wind picked up. Dove near the pipeline around 4:00 pm and visibility was 10' until you got to the kelp, where it dropped to around 3'.

Lovers today, stairs outside the cove. 10 to 15 feet viz, water 50F to 52F, glassy surface with small sets. Fin off walking entry & exit though a shallow sand step almost turned the exit into a crawl. Saw a dolphin swim by some free divers when we first arrived---not sure they noticed. Left Monterey early enough for good traffic heading north, pitied the folks in the south bound jam.

Monastery was right on the fence for me, so my team called it on the beach. Wind was blowing directly into the North Side.

We decided to dive Breakwater. Viz was 10' max, 52F (seemed chilly) saw a huge Ling and Cabezon and tons of juvy rockfish. Also 2 Black rockfish as well (fairly large), something I don't normally see. Others inlcuded one Striped Kelpfish and I think a red Scalyhead sculpin (couple firsts for me).
Taught my friend how to shoot a bag, she didn't do to bad her first time around.

Tons of July 4th goers on the beach, for once us divers were outnumbered. There were only about 4 teams on the beach including us and a solo diver.
Got to assist that guy with some fishing line. If you're reading this, stop swimming next time when you try to clear yourself. The fisherman was very concerned about reeling you in, he had to call us.

Almost forgot. I spotted a midshipman with a huge chunk taken out of it's head, between the eyes. It was still alive and breathing. That was new for me.
