Don't know about Boat Diver, but I took Equipment Specialist, and it was a good informational class well worth the 40 bucks it cost.

Could've I looked up the information myself for free? Of course.

But is it wrong to pay someone to teach you something? No.

Besides, I wouldn't have the opportunity to mess with insides of regulators and such that I was offered at the class and to socialize with other divers.

People will live and learn. I have just seen the biggest ebay sale of dive gear, 2 dive buddies just sold all the gear they bought thinking it was good stuff. Well now they have accepted a new way of diving and have discovered gear they prefer. New divers don’t know any better and figure the LDS knows best. Well after diving more and seeing what else is out there they will realize that certain things are good or bad. It’s all about trial. I was lucky in the sense that my buddies are far more advanced than me and can show me what is good and what is useless but not everyone has that option and will buy the equipment without doing the research or trying the stuff.
P.S I am a BP/W rec diver and would not have it any other way

Good job of selling on the course....I don't think I would take the certification seriously and rebuild my own regs or something..............

What is the point of this thread other than to call 99.9% of all divers stupid and inform us that dive stores sometimes sell some dumb assed items. Something which we all knew anyways.

I can't really understand why that would come across any gentler in real life George..I mean Boogie.

You were not born perfect. I'll bet money on it. Be careful not to slip on your soapbox. It's a long fall from the top of the cyber DIR diving world.

But the PADI divemaster is supposed to be a TEAM player. How can he be a TEAM player if he does not PUSH this junk off on unsuspecting newbies????????Bent

A team player who pushes what he believes to be junk off on unsuspecting newbies is playing for the wrong team--and belongs there if he is willing to do this.

A valuable team player--valuable to the shop, the diver, the industry--will help divers find things to buy, but will restrict this to items that he truly believes will improve the divers' experience or that the diver himself demands to buy. This goes for classes as well as equipment. And he should never impose his beliefs on the customer. If the customer wants to buy three-toed fins and an anchor-retractor, and wants to take an anchor-retracting class, he should not berate the customer for wanting anything that he is qualified to buy or experience.

For the team to win it must develop long-term customers who dive, and playing them for a fool in the short run will not accomplish this.

A sign of a good dive shop is one that says a peice of equipment is good and would recommend it and they dont even sell it. Those shops actually exsist. ( they are few and far between)

Ah oppinions, got to love them. I dive a BP/W in a rec environment because it's the only thing I've tried that fits me right. That includes Ranger, Escape, Eclipse, SP whatever the LDS had on the shelf and threw at me and other assorted BCs.

Zeagle has some really great Tech and 911 models, many times more comfortable and versatile than a backplate model.

There are lots of good choices available. One style does not meet the needs of all.

I've been looking for a good anchor-retractor...........If you know where I can find one, please inform. Thank You
