These two fish were seen at 60ft in 80 ft of water 18 miles off the coast of NC on a wreck. Water temp high 70s. I apologize for the pictures but they swam across in front of me and I did not recognize them and it was a panning shot. They were about 5-6 inches long. Color of the bottom one is pretty accurate judging from some other objects that were cropped. The upper one was not fully exposed by the flash. My best guess is some type of Wrasse or maybe a bass of some kind.

Any thoughts?

That looks right. Maybe a juvenile or partially grown juvenile. We do get some juvenile tropicals. The other one which was cropped out had a side profile similar to what I now see in reef fish ID. The other onse side profile does show some white on the lower body.

Thanks
