My pal is finally getting certified for OW, but has encountered a peculiar problem. It appears that his Bare wetsuit causes him to break out in a rash in various places on his body...specifically on his wrists and ankles [on one occasion] and lately on his chest and upper arms.

Has anybody heard of this? Is there anything to be done about it? He figures he can put up with it until he gets a drysuit, but a quicker solution would be very welcome... Thanks!

Not sure how helpful this will be but maybe worth a look.

Of this one, a little off topic initially but last post might help.

There is a diver at our shop that is allergic to neoprene. He normally wears a skin under it that usually helps him. He also wears a skin under the hood as well to protect him from direct content. Though he has since purchased a drysuit and only dives a skin on vacation.

Googling non neoprene wetsuits returned this as well : Thermocline Neutrally Buoyant Wetsuit | Fourth Element basically same concept as wearing a skin.

My son has had similar issues with an "unlined" neoprene suit. He purchased a suit that that was "lined" and has had no issues.

Consider something like a Henderson Aqua Lock suit that is lined, or Pinnacle merino-lined suit.

My vote is the shop's cleaning product is reacting to his skin. If that is not the problem though I would second Hardkwood's advice and experiment with the different suit linings just to narrow it down. Good luck!

Or does the suit have latex seals at ankles and wrists? In that case it might also be a latex allergy.

I have the same problem with neoprene, rash all over.
Solution was simpel Drysuit :D
