Panicking? Really? It's cold here in Austin, unusually cold for here, that's true, but isn't "panicking" a bit strong? When streets ice over, schools close and folks stay home from work because we don't have the experience or the equipment to deal with it routinely. It just doesn't happen that often - usually once in a winter if that, and twice in 5 days is very unusual.I have family in Austin and Houston. They are both panicking right now over the ``cold.'' It is currently -8 here, and I told them I would gladly trade.
Would you "panic" if there were days on end of 100+ degree temperatures where you are? It's all in what you are used to.
