For dorks like me who read Playboy for the articles, the July/August issue has a story about an interview with HST that mostly takes place in Cozumel. Fun read.

Mimi Becerra (Pepe Becerra's wife) hired a reporter to write a book about the history of La Palmeras Restaurant, formerly known as Pepe's. She asked me if I could find any early photos of the restaurant. What I turned up was Hunter S. Thompson sitting in front of Pepe's (with the sign in the background) for a part of that March, 1974 interview. A little more sleuthing and I turned up the audio tapes and a pile of notes including his expense report for the trip. Shortly after I gave the leads to Mimi, I saw that the photographer (Al Satterwhite) made a pitch on Kickstarter, asking for funds to make a coffee-table book of the images. It got funded and then some (I seem to remember over 30K) but I don't know if the book is finished. Below are the links (hope they still are live!):

p.s .... NIXON! :D

Looks like the book is finished and is called The Cozumel Diary. Only 1000 copies printed. How cool!
