My university (GMU) is getting it's scuba club reactivated, and we are trying to find local dives we can do for a weekend trip. Are there any spots around besides Lake Rawlings and Dutch Springs? Ideally any sites would be in a 3-4 hour driving range and be inexpensive enough for undergraduates to dive at.

Also, if any SB'ers are students at GMU, come join! PM me for info.

Couple of spots around Kill Devil Hills and Nags Head in NC. Really need the conditions to be good.
Hopefully you can make out the attached image for Nags Head (USS Huron). Lots of other resources on line. Also, these guys can guide your group if you prefer: OBXDIVE :: Nags Head, NC

Morehead City is a little further (6 hours), but has a couple dive shops that are perfect for the poor college student.:D
Both Olympus and Discovery Diving offer bunkhouses that are around $25 or less per night. I think Discovery is cheaper, but Olympus has nicer facilities and is in the middle of town (bars/restaurants).

Best of all...Morehead City gets the warm Gulfstream water, unlike Nagshead and north

Summersville Lake in Summersville, WV. Surface temp = 85+ deg. July-Sept.; depth = 0-300+; visibility = 20-40+ ft. depending upon rainfall; cleanest clearest lake east of the Mississippi River acording to "Skin Diver Magazine". Sarge's Dive Shop is located "on" the lake. Full-Service ERDI/SDI/NAUI dive shop. Air, classes, rental, sales & service, charter service for divers, swimmiers, snorkelers, and lake tours. Excellent lake for open water dives and traiining. Season: Memorial Day through Labor Day (Open 7 days/week from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.). Five minutes from campground, motels, restaurants, shopping, and hospital.
