I am looking for a set of tank straps with Stainless Steel cam buckles. I broke one of my plastic cam buckles the other day, I like very tight straps, and thought it is time to go to Stainless for buckles.

I am looking at the Highland Tank Straps w/Quick Release Cam Buckle (https://www.divegearexpress.com/highland-tank-straps-quick-release-w-cam-buckle-pair) and the DGX TANK STRAP, STANDARD WITH S/S CAM BUCKLE (https://www.divegearexpress.com/dgx-tank-strap-standard-with-s-s-cam-buckle), I am not looking at the ScubaPro or the new Aqualung style buckles.

Anybody using either style with good/bad results. Any other S/S cam buckles to look at that are available in the US that to look at that are reasonably priced.

Thanks for any information.

Yes, OLD OMS or DiveRite. Anything that looks solid will work fine, I believe that there is only one way of threading SS cam buckles.

Nobody can agree on anything with respect to diving, note the numbering on the pic and compare to the DiveRite vid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1JzE6rnNP2I

Thread both the same way...

^^^yes^^^

I have an old OMS, but would use the DGE type as the other might "fall apart" when loose. I loosen my straps then pull off the backpack from one tank and drop it on the next. With a quick disconnect on the Highland, I might need three hands to keep everything togather.

I have a set of the DGX ones and they seem well made to me.

I've had several types, the ones that have held up and I prefer are the Highland bands.

Just like most things it comes down to personal preference. I ordered the Highland QR buckles you have linked. Sent them back. I admit I am clumsy and got irritated trying to manage them at home much less on a rocking dive boat. They did seem well made.

I have both and prefer the Highland bands. This thread discusses them in fair detail and includes a modification I made that significantly improves them (Post #25).

http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/ge...811-do-you-have-either-these-tank-straps.html

I have always found that loosening a conventional band enough to slide on and off a single to be awkward. The Highland bands have a "hook" that lets you open them completely without unlacing the cam. However, comments made by some posters in the above thread are valid and the modification remedied the "hook up" problem.

I prefer to lay the backplate and wing on the deck and lay the single on it, especially if you like your bands tight. That method helps the tank to align to the plate and compress the resilient material much more than standing up. It also improves your body-mechanics closing the cams.

Those quick disconnect things bit my fingers enough times I am not using them ever again. On a cramped boat with plastic tank holders along the sides (gunwales?) and not really enough room to re-hook them in there.

Try "bulling" your way through them. Hold the hook part against the tank at the strap and just yank the other part over it. IMHO, their big advantage is that you don't have to "shimmy" a tank out of a set of bands with rubber keepers.
