I'd just wait until I'm down to 100 psi. Or 500, or whatever.
AFAIK there's no penalty for a longer SS. There's a guess based on anecdotal evidence that it's an advantage with Cressi & Suunto "RGBM" algorithms.

While a good safety stop reduces the chances of DCS, it also delays the more efficient off-gassing that will occur on the surface. And there is always the question of whether you are unnecessarily holding up other divers or the dive operator, or unnecessarily shortening your SI. I am often the last guy back on the boat, but I am also right behind the diver in front of me unless there is a problem.

I believe there's claims that larger pressure differential leads to larger bubbles that make off-gassing less efficient at the surface. Hence the idea that RGBM-based computers "like" long SSs.

True. However if there are other divers with you, you'd probably have another way to time your SS.
