When I got home the first thing I did was purchase a whistle, 6 foot day/night SS, and now I'm looking up resqlinks that I can put in a capsule so I can dive with it.

Just got my OW certification - upon reading your experience I promptly bought an additional SS that has manual inflate (have one from PADI as well), a loud A$$ whistle, and a water proof case for my Resqlink. In my whole equipment acquisition flurry I hadn't really thought about additional safety equipment - your post reiterated the fact that.. maybe I should!

Great man, that's exactly why I decided to make this post! Happy diving!
