Going to punta cana this winter and looking for any input on what dive sites to do.

The diving in Punta Cana is pretty bad...lot's of surge, not a lot of life on the reef. The best diving in the DR is on the south coast near La Romana in a fishing village called Bayahibe (about an hour south of Punta Cana). Most of the Punta Cana hotel dive operators run day trips to Bayahibe to dive a small offshore island...Catalina Island, which features a very nice wall dive followed by a shallow dive at a spot called "The Aquarium" with lots of healthy coral and marine life.

I would second dhboner's recommendation. Catalina Island is worth the trip, Scuba Caribe should have there boat running down there now, it should ease the crowding and it will be a newer boat. If you just want to get wet the dive sites off PC will do, they are 5-10 min. off shore so it is quick and easy. The reef conditions are as described. There are a few shallow wrecks as well.

Sorry for the confusion, I meant that Scuba Caribe is going to keep a boat in Bayahibe. They service most of the resorts in PC and have split a charter with ScubaFun. It could get crowded as they are usually mixed scuba & snorkel charters.
