Manasota Beach englewood 9/24
More dead fish here than I cared to see... 1030 am viz 10 ft and temp 86. Dis over an hr on the reef. No finds but lota of dead grunt. Suspect the came from north. The reef fish were happy. Saw a beautiful school of angel fish.

If u are shore diving make sure to check the fwc red tide report.

Red tide continues to get worse in Venice and moving offshore. No diving for me lately :-(

We have been conducting fossil dive operations the past several days. While conditions are far from ideal, diving is still possible. Lots of dead fish and other critters floating on the surface, and a layer of dense murky water surface to about 10-15 feet. Once you are below that layer of "soup" the water is clear with viz in the 20 ft range. It is a bit dim as "soup layer" is preventing light from penetrating to the bottom, but not dark just like a cloudy day. What does seem strange is that there are no fish or other marine life that we usually have following. If it's not dead it has left the area, and likely it will take a good deal of time to recover. Water in the soup layer is stinky and gear and divers require a good hosing off after diving. We have been the only boat out for more than a week, but have had good luck with finds of Megs in the 5+ inch range as well as other prized fossils. We've got procedures down to support our divers, so if you are felling brave come on out with us.

Took my boat out today - 3 dives in the greater Service Club area.
77F with 10 feet visibility - some places more, some less.
Almost all of the silt is gone. Did not see one fish.
Lots of small finds.

Dove Tuesday with incoming tide, 5 to 10 foot visibility off South Broward. Lots of shells washed in and no fish. More fly's on the beach than normal but the dead fish are getting cleaned up. Water also cooling into the 70's as reported.

Shore dive today at South Brohard.
Seas flat with 10+ viz. Lots of small fish around.
Small finds and lots of great shells. Too bad the
original occupants of those shells were killed by
the red tide.

Saturday, Oct. 29 South Brohard..............In at 9:30..............outgoing tide with strong current...............viz, 5-7ft...........water temp 74....................Some fish coming back............saw sheepshead, a couple of snook, a cowfish & a school of young spadefish...................reef is very quiet.............no snapping or popping.
