My wife and I are discussing some non-diving options....

Would anyone here be interested in sharing a deep-sea diving charter on Wednesday, January 3rd? I know it's a long shot, but my 14 year old son expressed interest in that, but spending $450 for he and I to fish is a bit pricey.

From context it appears that you mean fishing, not diving. Most fishing ops will take you on a half day trip for less if that will scratch the itch. There used to be (it's been a long time since I checked) opportunities available to buy individual slots on fishing boats. Check out Albatross Charters; they may be able to help you.

Here's another place to check: Aquarius Fishing | Welcome That's Carlos Vega's operation; he was a friend of my dad's but I haven't spoken with him in many years. He started out with bonefishing trips to the north end of the island (hence the "flats" in his URL) but I'm pretty sure he still runs offshore fishing trips as well.

Fishing is a(nother) big part of the Cozumel Experience for me. I went there several times to fish before I got cert'ed to dive.
