I'm checking around the Carib. --any advice on the DR regarding cheap, clean motels ("motel 6"?), shore diving, car rentals? Looking at early May. Thanks in advance.

I think you will find the DR very reasonable in price . I am not sure they have
a Motel 6 but I am sure many of the all-inclusive ops will offer diving , transportation
to and from the airport , and of course meals .

I just spent three days in Bayahibe. There are a lot of hotels there that you may be able to find a good deal for. I dove with ScubaFun and highly recommend checking them out.
Really no shore diving in DR. I also dove with Scubafun and they were great. They also have a hotel they are associated with that might be a good deal.
