So we had the boat in Marathon for the weekend to do some lobstering and dive on Sombrero reef. On the way back home yesterday (Monday) we decided to stop at Pennekamp State Park and dive the Christ of the Abyss and then me and my son dived the Spiegel Grove to round off the day. The vis was not great maybe 25 feet and 35 feet in some spots, but both the Spiegel and the Abyss were alive with fish. I will post pics from the Abyss later.

The current was absolutely ripping and I had a feeling it would be because it was all weekend in Marathon, even on the gulf side, so bad it made free diving lobster in 12 ft hard.

The whole family was on the boat but only me and my son went down, this is his first deep dive. So mom, daughter and her friend stayed on the boat.

The water was the usual 87 degrees up top and it dropped to 80 ish at 100 feet. Hope you enjoy the pics.

Check those fuzzy's your dad gave you son here we go!

Great pics. Looks like a good time with the family.

Looks like a good trip! That current is crazy.

Hope to make trip down that way soon but no deep stuff yet. That’s still a year away or more.

Those baby permit look like some type of jack (maybe horse eye).

Current was INSANE I couldnt believe it. It was a great dive though so now my son knows how bad it can be.

You are correct those are horse eye jack, my friend saw my pics and said the same thing, first time for me seeing them! Good eye.

Not much on Earth better than diving with the family in good conditions.

Amen to that, it was awesome to see my son go down on that big wreck, he was awestruck
