I'm OK with the "where" part, but what does your "when" part suggest? Diving in low tide or in between the tides or in winter time when the waters are much colder?

JAR is likely referring to off-times such as waay early hi tides and during the week, etc.--wife went yesterday--conditions still 10-20 ft viz and about 80 degrees with sand in the water column.

When; 1 hour + pre HT. Then go where others do not go to, at least not until HT.
I have the East side to myself mostly.

Yeah, right. Everyone and their grandma dive at 1 hr pre HT. I prefer the less crowdwed E side too but you still have to park somewhere. My last time there I had to hike from the Plaza Circle corner back to the bridge.

Seriously, how good winter diving there is?

I hear ya! I have a "route" I take on the west side that even when diving on the weekend, I am lucky to see a couple other divers. I can hear them with their tank bangers and underwater sound makers, but don't see em! Lovely. I usually avoid the east side because it's so crowded, but know of a few routes also that avoids most.

thanks for the warning

Yeah, I do.. :)

I had a fantastic time diving BHB last weekend, for the first time in a year. Kudos to Pura Vida Divers - as ever, one of the great dive ops anywhere - and also to my expert guides and spotters, Andrea Whitaker and Jamie Cruce, as enthusiastic as they are expert. Viz wasn’t fantastic (10-15’) but as usually happens at this most miraculous spot, I saw things I’d never seen before and didn’t know existed.

Herewith, my favorite shots. All from an Olympus OMD-EM1 in Nauticam housing, the 60mm macro lens, occasionally a Dyron +7 wet lines, and dual Sea & Sea YS-D1 strobes. In order, these are: female pikeblenny, closeup of a beaded Sea star, two different juvenile buffalo trunkfish, mantis shrimp, sea horse, striated frogfish, rough box crab, tube anemone, seaweed blenny, and a reticulated sea slug.

I’m always eager for better or corrected IDs and photo tips. See you at the bridge!
