I have a Dimension and have overloaded it to 36 lbs. 2 6 lb bricks in each pouch (so 12lbs per pouch) and a 6 lb brick in each trim pocket.

Haven't hit any issues.

So I got the BCD last night and the pockets are, indeed, about 2/3rd the length. There is no way you could cram more than an extra pound in there with 10 lb. of soft weight. However, due to the back-inflate bladder, the trim is actually better with a 5 in each of the trim pockets, so I'm not having a problem with that. I also switched to a heftier cold-water reg (Apeks XTX 50 vs rental Aqualung Titan) and computer, and those seemed to take off a couple pounds as well.

I considered a backplate setup, one of my buddies has one, I may still get one as an option.

I think you will find this to be a good approach, considering the amount of lead you need for your exposure suit, environment (salt water) and cylinder.

Switching to an Apeks reg is also a good idea. Their first stages are heavy, and that puts weight higher on you body, where you want it.

What will that do to his trim?
There is a good chance that position will put him in (more of) a 'foot low' position. It certainly did for me.
