We thought we would give the ocean a few more days for the suspended particulates to settle. No dice. This is the time of year when conditions are supposed to be best in SoCal but my wide angle lens is collecting dust. We once again had twelve feet visibility with a sandstorm around Palos Verdes. I think we'll give it some more time.

Whenever I see a post by you, I set it aside until I go through the others first. Because I know I will spend a good bit of time taking in the great photos. Always enjoy seeing your posts.

Thank you. Sometimes it's as easy as pointing and shooting but with the poor vis we've had lately it's been a lot of work. I spend a long time looking through the viewfinder watching flakes of sand and gunk drift by. When I think it's clear enough I push the shutter. I spend a lot more time when I get home Photoshopping out the dozens of other little crumbs I didn't see.
I try to promote my local dive sites but many times my photos make it look better than it really was.

Yea, tried some diving Saturday morning in Malibu and while the ocean was like a lake (calmest beach dive I've had in awhile), the viz was atrocious. 5 feet at best. Silver lining was 3 harbor seals accompanying us for the majority of our swim back in. They seemed to enjoy the swim on the surface more than we did.

HMCS Yukon on Sat had 2-3meters visibility at best, 15°C at depth 30msw ("typical San Diego/Mission Beach conditions"). I look at it this way -an occluding dinoflagellate/plankton bloom means more food for the schooling bait fishes at the lower end, and starting the marine food chain.

Where do you dive around PV? I live there.

Did an afternoon Dive off Leo Carrillo Beach around 5pm which was supposed to be our early dive before night diving for lobster. As others have reported...visibility was 3 to 5'. Best was maybe 8'. We cut the dive short at the 35 minute mark and bagged the night dive.

Lobster catching by my dive busy was nearly successful. He had two legals get away. The first one smacked me in the side of my head! I couldn't believe it!

Fairly good conditions around Catalina the previous week. Vis up to 50-60 ft
