Yes I call those waves, ripples.
 
LOL. Up here we'd call that too much surf and assume the viz would be 1 foot or less with massive surge. :)
 
Just about anything with breaking waves is gonna beat you up. My general rule of thumb is <10 from the east, or <15 from the west. Then take into consideration if it's been blowing for a while or not. This weekend, for instance, is not a good weekend to beach dive..
