Hello All,

First let me say I am not much of a scubapro guy. I personally dive poseidons... I purchased a few years ago a MK20/S600 setup used. The previous owner stated that the MK20 was "upgraded" to MK25 status. Is there anyone out there who can tell me 1) is there any way to confirm that this is indeed true, and 2) I remember there was some sort of recall on the 20 due to a metal part failing... Is there any way to determine visually if this repair was done. I can post pics if need be. Thanks in advance!

Not conclusively

To know for certain, you’d have to remove the yoke/DIN retainer.

Better question about MK25 is, what really is there to “upgrade”? Only has an affect as a service technician, which you are not, if the buyer is one it also won’t make much a diffe4ence, if he isn’t, then it’s a moot point

I am a tech on a bunch of brands but nothing piston. I work on my own regs and adjust and check my own IP etc. I'm sure I can find a manual and tear this reg down but I would rather not because I have never worked on a piston before and am unfamiliar with the tribal knowledge of assembly and tuning one. Especially if it requires the shims... I also don't believe I have any tools that would work on SP. Again, I am not really a SP guy (no hate just haven't really used or sold them). IDK what the upgrade is really if you would be so kind as to enlighten me... Thank you

you have to check the piston, the upgrade is to the newer composite piston.

the saddle recall is easier to check

Thanks for that info!!! I checked and the saddle has indeed been upgraded. It does not have the external IP adjustment so I guess the only other thing to check would be the piston. Thanks again!

The S600 also went through several changes/upgrades. You'll need to check on that.

Someone did the recall but if you do not have an adjustment screw on top to adjust the imtermediate pressure, then you still have a MK20. The upgrade kit has a different cap with the allen adjustment screw. No shims are used with a MK25.

The upgrade is DEFINITELY worth it!!

I checked and the saddle has indeed been upgraded.
Please note the "two vent saddle" is supposed to indicate the new DIN or Yoke upgrade was accomplished. The real upgrade is a replacement of the retainer itself.

Even if the retainer was replaced, it is important to inspect the body of the regulator (with the retainer removed) to ensure there are no stress cracks caused by ham-fisted technicians who may have over torqued the retainer.
