Ive found that generally speaking, as far as destinations are concerned. The better the scuba diving is for a particular place, its usually accompanied by less interesting night life.

What is the community's opinion on the destinations that offer the best combo of diving & nightlife?

Do you mean lobsters, crabs, octopus and those mean nasty Bonaire Tarpons?

Aruba
Cozumel
Oahu/Waikiki
maybe Nassau but diving opions are 2 choices The Atllantis mega-Resort has bars, large casino etc. I could amuse myself in Cable Beach also.
Grand Cayman along Seven Mile Beach
Miami Beach/South Beach
Lots of bars in Roatan's West End - all walking distance. Intermixed with cheap accommodations and about 2 dozen dive ops. Seemed best Th-Sat though.
If you dive cold - Mission Beach/San Diego or Long Beach south of LA.

I might add certain places in Thailand but generally they are a bit of a drive away from each other (Ao Nang might be an OK option). The diving is decent, but not amazing.

Italy might also be an interesting choice (thinking of a shop or two out of Florence) .

Depends on if you want a dive vacation or a vacation with diving.

Liveaboards are out.

So is Vegas.

Somewhere in between lies your “sweet spot”.

You want 1, 2 or 4 in a day? How many night dives in your week?

You want late night dancing and upscale booze? Slinky cocktail dresses and heels? Or a bottle of beer that you’ve never heard of and a sand floor bar? Or maybe a glass of tea?

The new over-used, undefinable and arguably bull$#it “concierge diving”, or you want to slog it out to the boats in the surf?

Left me rephrase your opening line- the better the diving, usually the underwater night life matches that!

The better the diving, the harder it is to get to, the further from a decent cheeseburger, reliable electrical power, repair parts, medical help, Starbucks, stuff life that.

Chandler Arizona comes to mind. Or Santa Rosa NM. Or Trip Advisor.

DOC - since you asked, our group is relatively young and still bachelors. We typically like to find a destination where we can dive a handful of days (preferably 4 tank days), either consecutive days or sprinkled into the trip. The other half of the trip we'd like to be near a nice beach and hit the town at night. Usually our group tends to go where the most girls are , which means late night dancing.

We do like the live aboard experience however. Locations with good live aboard options combined with late night hotspots for the remainder of the trip are great. We did a Khao Lak live aboard in february and spent the rest of our time in Phuket.
