It's a great all around fitness/smart watch and mine stays on my wrist 24/7. I like that it geotags your entry and exit! However, I always dive with my Teric for deco and wireless AI. If I am on CCR, I dive with another two Petrels in addition to the Descent and Teric.

I was doing the Grand Traverse at Peacock Springs. In at Orange Grove, popped up at Challenge and then exited at P1. That's almost a mile underground. These are screen grabs from Garmin Connect off my phone.

BTW, I figured out how to copy paste on a Chromebook. Now if I could get the mouse to connect! :D :D :D

How does it do that on descent? Does it use the last GPS position it had before it can't hear the satellite any more?
If I knew that, I would be making PDCs. :D :D :D

Bluetooth doesn't transmit very well underwater.
AI uses Bluetooth or WIFI? Garmin descent has WIFI. Could be okay when some day a WIFI pressure sensor has been built?

Neither. Can't speak for all transmitters, but the pelagic used by shearwater, oceanic, etc transmits at 38 kHz. Way way lower frequency than Bluetooth or wifi.

Ha. I didn't even notice.. Reset and try next time and see. Better it's not pressure sensor issue. Never had that for me
Ha ha the information from Garmin "your case which seems like a malfunction on the device depth sensor"

Water absorbs radio waves (which Bluetooth is) very well. Salt water even better. To increase the range of transmission you can make the frequency lower, which is the same as making the wavelength longer. You can also increase the transmission power.

Electromagnetic absorption by water - Wikipedia

As an interesting aside, microwave ovens take advantage of water absorption of radio waves to cook food (the water molecules heat up quickly by absorbing the energy in the radiation/radio waves). Bluetooth and WiFi are also very weak microwave radios. Maybe turning up the power might have interesting side effects when diving?
