COZUMEL, May 21. - Rates for ground transportation at the airport are governed by the Federal Commission of Economic Competition (Cofece), and not by the administration of the airport terminal, after the presumed disadvantage in tariffs between the Transporters Union " Andrés Quintana Roo "and the new company Offir Tour with federal plates.

Faced with the complaint of land transporters of the aforementioned union, in the sense that the new company with federal plates is offering half price fares for tourists arriving by air to the island, Jorge Campos Romero, administrator of the Cozumel International Airport , announced that it is not for the administration in charge, to regulate the rates and costs of the transfers, but that it is directly the responsibility of the Cofece.

He said that even to launch the tender to transport companies interested in this service on the island of Cozumel, the Offir Tour company, exhibited the rates currently used, and land carriers did the same, and being the two winning companies, the price transfer was fixed and is not subject to change.

In fact, if there were any modification, it would have to be authorized by the Cofece, because if they do it unilaterally, they would be subject to sanctions.

Anticipated that if any of the companies intends to make a modification it can not be up, if it does not have to be down, because if it is to increase their transportation costs would fall into an infraction and would be sanctioned, instead if they do on the downside, as it is not affecting the users' pocket there would be no infraction or lack to follow.

He reiterated that the administration can not be regulating this type of prices, and that the opening that was given to the entry of another company with federal plates was because the same Cofece, requested that there be a competition, since they considered that the Union of Land Transporters It operated as a kind of monopoly.

Terrific, but as I left Monday it was said that the Taxistas won't let them drive on public roads in the city. All the new cars were just sitting and getting polished by their employees. I'd bet there will be some mayhem when they do enter town, but I hope not.

Haha, you know the first one to leave the airport may get polished by some Taxi Mafia Sledge Hammers lol!!!! :)

Saw a Flexicab and a Flexishuttle driving out of the airport heading downtown. Didn't see and dents in the body work of either one...

Hopefully it stays that way!!!!

Maybe Uber will be allowed in next?!?!? :)

The taxi Mafia are lightweights compared to these guys.

COZUMEL, May 13 .- Couple of citizens who personify the show of clowns were beaten and threatened by another character who allegedly wanted to charge them "right floor" so that they could make their presentation at the Quintana Roo park. The citizens turned against them and a fracas was derived. The chief prosecutor said that the case is being investigated and the permit could be rescinded.

The night of last Sunday, the amphitheater of the Quintana Roo Park, concentrated more than two hundred people, who arrived to enjoy a family day, so they began to see the clown show of the brothers "Sonsos alegres", who are from Cancun, but periodically arriving on the island.

At the time of concentrating a large group of islanders, another clown with the artistic name of "huesitos", began to demand a payment of 300 pesos, as he said that this was ordered by the "dealer" "Camarita", another clown who tells with a permit to present his show at the park.

When the young people refused, they were attacked and accused with the police to arrest them because they did not have permits, which meant that the spectators raised their voices and demanded the release of the artists who had been charged the "right to flat". "In front of all the people.

Due to the fact that no immediate agreements were reached, the three clowns involved and the father of the third party who joined the aggression were presented in the Public Security divisions.

The aggrieved acknowledged that they did not have permits and that on other occasions they have visited their relatives on the island, they go to work honestly, but every time the person designated as "Camarita", allegedly requires them to pay 300 pesos per wheel -presentation- or in other cases, depending on their earnings, they demand 50 percent of their earnings, of what they said tired.

In this regard, Gerardo Selva Romero, head of Verification and Commercial Planning, said that the case of the permission of the clown "Camarita" is being analyzed, since the previous administration has said permission, but because it is not sublet, in case of being detected that has been making collections not allowed to other clowns.

23-May - Taxis intercept and block new vendor's vans from providing transport *to* the airport. The article seems to imply that the passengers were going from one hotel (Secrets Aura) to another, but the photo shows many people with significant luggage, which seems inconsistent (I suppose they could have bee changing hotels?)

Cancun back to normal after taxi drivers end UBER protest

This quote from the last article makes it sound like Uber has been granted permission to operate throughout the state:
"Currently there is a ruling by a federal judge (final suspension) in which he orders the Mobility Institute to allow Uber Mexico to operate and carry out its commercial activity in the State of Quintana Roo. Derived from the above, the company submitted its application for registration as ERT before the Mobility Institute, which has not been resolved, "said the director. "

A law was passed allowing new types of transportation companies to operate in Quintana Roo after they obtain the proper permits. Uber has applied for their permit, but the permit has not been granted yet. Uber has taken the position that since they applied for the permit, they should be able to operate. The taxi union, is taking the position that since the permit has not been granted yet, Uber does not have the right to operate.
