Sudden illness during a dive, dies 63-year-old sub
A 63-year-old Austrian woman, on vacation with her husband on the Island of Elba, died this afternoon after suffering an illness during an underwater dive off the coast of Marina di Campo (Livorno). According to a first reconstruction of the Portoferraio harbor master's office, the woman felt ill after diving with her spouse in a sea area off the island reached by the two with a dinghy. To alert the Coast Guard, and to provide the first assistance, was the boat of a diving that was passing through the area. The woman was transferred to the ground, to Marina di Campo, also escorted by a coast guard rubber dinghy that in the meantime had reached the area: here waiting there were volunteers from a 118 ambulance with a doctor, while he had been alerted also the Pegaso helicopter, but despite attempts at resuscitation, the woman died. The harbor master's office, initiating the necessary investigations, notified the Livorno prosecutor's office.

I saw that couple of days ago .... I love the Google translation of rubber dinghy: 25 ft (8 mt) double 150HP outboard ...

Apparently Gommone (which is Rubber Inflatable Boat/Rubberd Hard-Bottom Inflatable Boat) is translated by google in Dinghy.

Just to make sure it is understood. Also some sources indicated that the woman was transferred by helo to the mainland hospital in attempt to save her life others (and more credibly) that she was declared dead before helo transfer.
Credible source indicated independent diving by the couple and first responders belonged to a diving center passing by, as indicated above.

What is the illness? Did she have DCI or a heart attack at depth kind of thing?

Apparently but non clearly spelled out non dive related medica issue

Is a heart attack while diving (under water) covered by DAN?

DAN North America as an insurance agent sells several policies. I guess your referencing their Dive insurance? I have the Texas Preferred plan which includes Medical Dive Accident Coverage, and I have not heard of them ever trying to disallow payment based on any trigger of an accident. The $100,000 worldwide evacuation assistance benefit is included in membership, not insurance.

She was from Austria so I'd have no knowledge as to what their DAN offers.
