It's not clear what you mean by sidemount rigging, since all you need is one of these DGX Hi-Torque Stainless Steel Clamps | Dive Gear Express®, a bolt snap, and short piece of accessory cord, along with a retainer for the regulator hose.
Newbie needs lightweight and compact BCD recommendation. Maybe even a hybrid?

If you're looking at a sidemount BCD that does both sidemount and backmount, consider the Hollis 100 or 75. They're not popular among the in-crowd here on the Sidemount sub-forum, but I own both, like them, and can vouch for the dual use issue.
