COZUMEL, October 19.- A portion of the Marine Park that was closed due to the theme of white syndrome, will be reopened for the purpose of “swimming”, on land allegedly under the administration of the Parks and Museums Foundation.

In a statement from the National Commission of Protected Natural Areas (Conanp), it was announced that as of October 21, swimming activities can be carried out on the Chunchacab beach of the Cozumel Arrecifes National Park, adjacent to the Punta Sur ecotourism park .

Just on October 7, Conanp decided to close an area that starts from the Palancar reef to Bosh beach on the other side of the island, and among these tourist spots would be the Palancar reefs, Colombia, in addition to El Cielo beach and those of Punta Sur, however, some reason they did not explain decided to open on Monday the Chunchacab beach allowing the activity of swimming and use of snorkeling equipment.

The newsletter that Conanp sent was that tourism service providers with the endorsement of the National Commissioner, Roberto Acuña Carlin, the advisory council of the Arrecifes de Cozumel National Park, representatives of the Anoaat, environmentalists and the Cozumel Parks and Museums Foundation, They had a work table, and at that meeting it was agreed to allow the activity known as swimming on this beach, mentioning that the reef in that area is 300 meters from the beach.

What they determined is that as they are going to commit to practices how to prevent the use of sunscreen lotion, that visitors must first rinse before entering the sea, that the snorkeling equipment would be washed with fresh water after the swimming activity, and that it would have signaling referring to these measures.

This agreement means that it was not even a month after the little more than two months that this area was supposed to be closed, to avoid any tourist activity, since they decided to open this point without explaining the specific reason.

Nor is it explained why they left the El Cielo and Cielito beaches closed, where there are no reefs, but a low sandy bottom.

He tried to contact Brenda Hernández Hernández, in charge of the management of Conanp in Cozumel, but did not answer the calls.

Maybe their thinking is there still won't be boat traffic.

Maybe their thinking is that a lot of cruise ship passengers are being affected.

Cruise ship lobby has more weight hunh?

My guess is that cruise ship passengers drop a lot more money on Cozumel every day than divers. Follow the $$$.
