Scuba Noobs in the PNW :)

Here to learn and grow, and lurking without participating has diminishing returns so here I am doing the registering and introduction thing.

Hubs and I tried SNUBA on our honeymoon two years ago, loved it and wanted to dive for real! Saved up a bit and took care of some other family matters first and then this year we've done our PADI certs for OW, Drysuit, and AOW with our local dive shop. Went to Maui this month and were BLOWN away at the utter decadence of visibility there vs our local PNW shore-dive pea soup, not to mention how nice it is to dive with warm water gear/lead! Going to Bonaire in February to dive and excited to keep diving through the winter to prep for that!

In general - I'm excited to see and watch ALL THE FISHIES, and he is excited to nerd out on min-maxing his gear and performance. We both like being together and active with something that is not too hot, too boring or too taxing on old ortho injuries. Current goals - extending our bottom time with more efficient movement, breath and trim and logging more dives together

Welcome! Have you dived at all in the Straits or San Juans? Visibility tends to be better there. The currents can get you, though.

Thanks! Not yet! Did Z's reef and Sunrise with Bandito earlier in the month but otherwise have just been mucking around WS Coves 1 & 2 and Redondo so far - and on weekends so everything is nicely kicked up by the newest batch of OW students! I am happy we have so much to explore around here!

Mukilteo is fun if you get down to the geodome.

At cove 3 the pilings on the North end of the beach are fun to explore.

Congrats on your certifications and for learning to dive in the cold, dark waters of the Puget Sound. I have been told that if you can dive here, you can dive anywhere. It is nice to get away to some warm, clear water, though.

ScubaBoard is great for travel and general discussions, but I suggest checking out nwdiveclub.com for more PNW focused discussions and coordinating weekly group dives (if you haven't been to that site already.)

I'd recommend going south instead to Ft Lauderdale and train under @custureri. He has helped me improve how I teach dry suit. I did a student's pool session and handed her off to another instructor for open water, and he was surprised how well she did. That's entirely due to what Ryan taught me.
