Past tense: Is it “Dived” or “Dove”

In college, I argued with an English major about this insisting that it was "dived". He was adamant that it was "dove." We fighted about it and I won. :)
 
Guys, an extract from the "Oxford English Dictionnary" (software version), which should settle the question : verb ( past dived or dove |dōv|; past part. dived) [ intrans. ]

As far as I'm concerned (non native speaker) I've noticed 'dove' only in the writings or speech of former North american pro divers (ex Navy or ex Commercial).
