My fellow LFHS classmate developed an ear problem. Attached is a photo of the tissue from his case of "swimmer's ear", quite painfull, he said. Anyone care to guess what this cute little thing is and how it was effectively treated?

Is this a guessing game, and you already know the answer? if so, just tell us.

Looks like it may be fungal infection due to an Aspergillus spp. Topical and systemic antifungal therapy may be effective. Voriconazole or another active azole would probably be used. Invasive disease may require surgical debridement
More serious invasive disease is often seen in patients with uncontrolled diabetes or immunosuppression. The morphology in the photo does not look like the invasive form, more like superficial growth

Why not guess a little, it's a bit fun.

Someone has already won the chicken dinner

Hint, it didn't respond to ciprofloxacin/dexamethasone drops or systemic amoxicillin.

What over-the-counter treatment was used successfully?

Attached is the original specimen

Or a waste of time. Esp in the diving medicine forum.
Ask questions, provide information, but put guessing games elsewhere.
