Is it correct that in the UK the previously necessary medical examination for diving suitability for diving on the island was abolished?
I need only a self assessment?

For BSAC diving we fill out a self assessment form. That's it.

If you have to declare a health issue then a medical opinion is needed and the doctor writes an exemption letter.

I'd email the people you are planning to dive with and ask. Where are you planning to go?

Not a simple yes or no.

For fun diving there isn’t any legal requirement for a medical. If your diving for work like teaching a PADI course or lesson then a HSE medical is required to comply with the Diving at Work Regulations.

Most importantly is what does your insurance require?

The self-declaration can be downloaded from here.

I’m not sure whether the costs of decompression treatment would by met by the NHS for a non-resident.
