I leave mine on. Most of the time. I only take it off when I take my regulator in for service. Definitely deserves watching if deckhands are handling your gear, but you need it on there at that point.

I remove transmitters for air travel. Regs, (with plugs in the HP ports,) go in check in bags, and transmitters are either stowed in a a small hard case with spare parts and such as check in, or put in my carry on. Only other time that I remove them is for battery changes.
