This may not apply to your area but we flew from Orlando to Detroit and back last week (both very large airports) and they were quite empty compared to what I am used to. My only flight since COVID hit. My wife did the same a month ago also and said the same thing. We even had lunch pre-flight both ways, no problem. I was very pleasantly surprised how comfortable I was personally. Note though, that we flew on Wednesday and the following week Thursday, not the weekend.

The flights were on Delta, which blocks the middle seats. In Detroit, Delta has it's own terminal, so that seat restriction would somewhat decrease the number of people inside the airport I assume.

Mask compliance was near 100%.

I agree 100%- I felt safer in the Delta terminal in Detroit and on the Delta flight to Atlanta and Turks & Caicos than I do at the grocery store. Customs in Atlanta was a different story, but that is always a clustermess.

Everyone was respectful, wore their masks the entire time (unless taking sip of water/eating) and kept to themselves.

My experience in August via IAH was similar to some of the others in that there were few travelers, lots of open space, and folks were very cognizant of covid protocols with masks, distance, and lots of sanitizer as the norm. The boarding procedures of back to front worked well. The only time I felt "closed in" was deplaning 5 rows at a time from the front as some folks just couldn't wait to grab their stuff (what else is new :)). My entire trip to, during, and from Coz felt more secure covid-wise than in my local, rural area. All IMHO, YMMV.

On the plane or in the airport?

From what I've read, Delta has a zero tolerance policy. They've even returned to the airport after take-off to escort the non-compliants from the plane. Also read that over 270 people are now prohibited from ever flying Delta again.

So claim the local government even tho the federal authorities say Orange.

It’s been that way since June 8th when we opened - feds had us red but we opened anyways - we are at or below levels we were back on June 8th aside from Chetumal

Many places around the world are now experiencing a resurgence in COVID-19 cases. How is Cozumel doing?
