That was the one he posted. I went and looked at a few others. Story goes they were using it to dig the bank for sand to make the dam. When finished the owner went up North to go hunting for a couple weeks. When he got back the water had already risen more than expected and it was stuck. It was left behind. When lost it was 20+ year old equipment in 1929, and a great depression probably hampered any plans to recover it. It was known to be around that area for a long time. Wasn't until the dam gave out and the lake drained that it was found. Now removed and being restored.

I suppose the arm was left ... by the previous owner. Were you able to find him ?

i'm trying to not believe that its a real arm
A Little history...
It’s real,
So you want to know about the missing angler at Ft Wetherill? Well it happened a long time ago back in the 1970s. Now, stories like these have a lot of holes in them because the guilty parties never would admit that they had actually done anything, especially murder... but if you hang around with the right divers long enough, they will tell you their stories.

Everyone knows about the old Volkswagen that is sunken on the west side of the cove below the cliffs? Well, how it got there is part of the story about the missing angler. Back then, the summer after Jaws came out there were not too many people diving that summer and even fewer in the fall. There was a guy who would go fishing in his tiny little piece of crap motor boat. It was only about ten foot long and with the guy in it, the gunnels were had only a few inches of freeboard (he was big, not particularly nice guy). He would tow his crappy little boat down to the ramp behind his crappy little VW bug.

Anyway, he was kind of a jerk and when he was out fishing in the coves around FTW, if he saw a diver down flag he would see if he could cast his line onto the float or the line. He would occasionally hook someones innertube float and pop it or snag the float line and force the diver to come up and cut the fishing gear off. The guy, being a major jerk, just thought this was hilarious. On occasion, he even snagged the divers. People would call the DEM on him, but nothing ever happened. It wasn't like he was stealing lobsters, so they didn't care.

So one day he was out in the cove and there was no one around and he saw a dive flag floating along the wall and he decides to get his jollies and starts casting towards it. He missed the float and after a few tries he catches the line. He can see the diver's bubbles and he can feel the tug of the diver trying to pull against his reel. Suddenly the line goes slack because the diver cut it loose. So the big oaf reels in his line and opens his tackle box and gets out a bigger hook, attaches it to the line and doesn't even bother to bait it.

With a couple of more casts he hooks the diver's line again. Again, he watches the diver's bubbles go and cut off his hook. So he digs out an even bigger hook and attaches it. This time he doesn't aim for the line or the float. He starts aiming for the bubbles and the diver. It takes him a few tries but he eventually hooks something. I suppose he was expecting the diver would cut the hook and since it was his last one, the game would be over. He just keeps pulling on that line and reeling it in until it goes slack. He finishes reeling it in and the hook is ripped through a piece of neoprene hood and a something he thinks was a worm but he quickly realizes it was part of an ear.

Seeing what he did he decides things have gone far enough and crawls forward to the bow and he starts trying to haul up his mushroom anchor and get out of there before diver comes up and IDs him. The boat is sloshing side to side and water is coming over the gunnels and he is trying to pull up the anchor and he can see the diver's bubbles heading towards the boat. He knows he ****** up because he can see a trail of blood coming up with the bubbles. And he is hauling up the anchor as fast as he can. His crappy little boat is half swamped when the bubbles reach his anchor line.

The diver is bleeding like a stuck pig and very pissed, he knows exactly who it is and has no intention of letting this slide. When he get to the anchor line he starts pulling back. It doesn't take long for the fisherman to swamp the boat and despite trusting his life to the crappy little too small boat, doesn't know how to swim. So with in a couple of minutes of starting the tug of war, the diver is joined on the bottom by the body of the angler. The body drifts down arm still wrapped around the anchor line, his eye wide with surprise, looking directly into the eyes of his killer.

Needless to say, the diver beats a hasty retreat back to the boat ramp. He throws his gear into his truck and starts to bandage his mangled ear. As he was about to leave, he looked down to the end of the boat ramp and sees the body of the angler has been pushed up to the base of the ramp by the tide and the drowned corpse is staring up from the water's edge at the diver. The diver goes down and tries to push the body back into the water, but it just won't budge. He was too fat and too dead.

Knowing people blame him for the death with his hook torn ear and having said he was going to dive at the fort that day, the diver resolves to dispose of the body. He takes his BFK and disembowels the body feeding the guts to the fishes and then cuts the rest of the corpse into chunks small enough to carry and he piles the remaining chunks into the front trunk of the Volkswagen and rolled it down into the water, and watches it be carried, with the chopped up and gutted remains locked inside out into the cove, carried out by the falling tide.

The car eventually flooded and sank out by the west wall of the cove, the front bonnet locked shut.

Divers of that time all knew whose car it was and they never said anything. The car rusted to it's current state and the body disappeared. Where did it go? No one is really sure, most of the divers of that vintage aren't around anymore, but they assumed a storm broke open the rusting hulk and carried him away.

In the years since, you can sometimes come across parts of the angler floating in the water or hanging off an anchor line trying to grab at passing divers...

At least that is the story I heard.
